What is EMILY's SHED?
My love of sewing came about when I inherited a sewing machine a few years ago and my daughter, Millie, asked me to make her a wash bag, a pencil case and then some bunting and I haven’t looked back. Now I am the proud ‘proprietor’ of Emily’s Shed!
When I started, my work space was the kitchen table, which became an increasingly inconvenient place for both me and my family, especially at meal times! I ‘quietly’ nagged my husband for quite a few months to let me have a shed in the garden to use as my work space. He finally knew when he was beaten and with the fantastic guidance and help from my father-in-law, built me my spectacular sewing shed and my business name was born!
The shed has been built from reclaimed materials including floorboards, pallets and old windows, it’s always toasty and cosy due to the walls being insulated with polystyrene packaging from appliances donated from Gary at Slees. My neighbours, Richard and Michelle Davis, gave me a large computer desk which makes a perfect sewing table.
I love sitting in my shed, listening to Planet Rock and making my bags, bunting, aprons etc. All my bags are waterproof lined so can be used as wash bags, lunch bags, pencil cases, make up bags – the list is endless!
I also make padded bags for ipads/tablets, kindles, phones and glasses. My bunting is a big hit too and I can personalise this with any words required. I have been thrilled to receive orders for wedding, christening and birthday bunting and it’s a great feeling to see my work playing a part in someone’s big day.
I am always happy to make any item to order and have a large selection of items in stock for sale.
I try to choose retro and funky fabrics for my products that has led to a heavy fabric addiction which, so far, I have managed to hide well in my shed! For an idea of all the things I sew, do have a look on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/emilysshed. Feel free to drop me an email if you have an item you’d like me to make for you.
I am based in the Braunton/Barnstaple area in wonderful DEVON!
I can travel to almost any event to show my wares, so why not come along to one?
